What Will You Wear?

As you've probably gathered by now, this hobby requires you to dress a little differently!


    Full 'kit' as we call it, will be provided at your first event so no need to worry about that until later.  Keep scrolling to learn about what we wear at a typical event!

 Soldiers

Our soldiers are made up of Pikemen and Musketeers. As you can see, their uniforms are almost the same aside from a few differences.


Soldiers wear:

 

  • Linen shirt
  • Woollen Hose (knee length woollen stockings)
  • Authentic leather shoes
  • Woollen breeches 
  • Red woollen soldiers coat
  • Hat or knit cap (felted or knitted wool)
  • Optional - Leather water bottle, pouch, snapsack (worn on the back like a sort of rucksack, used to carry food and other personal items)

 

Pikemen also wear iron or steel plate armour and helmet, and carry a 16ft pike!


Musketeers wear bandoliers (worn across the body and used to carry gun powder), a pouch (used to carry spare flint and match), and carry a musket.  You must first have a gun powder and shotgun license to become a musketeer.

Female Civilians

Women played a big role during the English Civil War, providing much needed domestic duties for the army and their families. 

Female Civilians wear:
  • Linen shift (underwear worn underneath the woollen garments)
  • Optional - linen stays (similar to a corset)
  • Woollen Hose (knee length woollen stockings)
  • Authentic leather shoes
  • Linen or woollen underskirt
  • Woollen petticoat OR jacket/bodice with woollen skirt
  • Linen collar
  • Linen coif (small bonnet like hat, worn to cover the hair)
  • Optional - felt hat, straw hat, linen apron, belt to hang leather or knitted pouch.

Male Civilians

Male civilians came in forms such as merchants, peddlers, farmers and servants.

Male Civilians wear:
  • Linen shirt
  • Woollen Hose (knee length woollen stockings)
  • Authentic leather shoes
  • Woollen breeches 
  • Woollen jacket or doublet
  • hat or knit cap (felted or knitted wool)
  • Optional - Leather water bottle, pouch.
